The Calgary Tower, located in Calgary, Alberta, rises 626 feet off the ground. On the observation deck, you can see a 360-degree view of the city that is breathtaking. It was built to celebrate the centennial and promote the downtown area. The tower has shops, dining, short films, light shows, and virtual tours for tourists. The tower was designed by an architect called W. G Wilne and cost 3.5 billion to build.
The observation deck holds 250 people, and there is a restaurant with a revolving floor that holds up to 200 visitors. The upper deck is a cocktail lounger and snack bar, and the tower was designed to withstand outdoor elements. When you visit from the observation deck, you will see the Repsol Sport Center, Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Eight Avenue Place, Banker’s Hall, The Edison, The Core Shopping Center, Hudson’s Bay, YWC Airport, Glenbow Museum, Calgary Zoo. City Hall, New Central Library, and Art Commons.
Calgary Tower has an outdoor LED light show before sunrise and in the evening from dusk to midnight. The show occurs on national holidays, during festivals, and special events. These 132 lights produce an array of colours and special effects for outdoor viewing. The Theater Room has a curved wall with 21 55 inch screens that show short 15-minute travel videos of Calgary scenery and attractions. Shows take place every 15 minutes.
Calgary Tower has Ruth Steakhouse on the second level near the bottom of the tower. It is open for dinner serving steak, shrimp, chicken, fish, soups, salads, appetizers, cocktails, wine soft drinks, and desserts. The Sky360 Restaurant and Lounge is located near the top with a great view and menu. They have a lunch, dinner, and brunch menu. The Calgary Tower gift shop sells toys, clothing, and memorabilia. They have a virtual tour for those that want to visit virtually.
The Calgary Tower is open daily from 10 am – 6 pm. They are located at 1019 Avenue SW Calgary. Social distancing is practiced at this time and a limited number allowed inside.
